Frequently Asked Questions About Artificial Turf
How long does installation of artificial turf take?
Installation varies depending on the size and complexity of your project. For example, the total square footage of the project, how much removal is involved, and if we are installing weed fabric, gopher guard or any type of perimeter edging. Here are some typical installation times: up to 500 square feet is 1-2 days; 500-1000 square feet is 3-5; 1000- 2000 square feet is 7-10 days. Take advantage of our free site inspection and estimate service to find out how long your project will take.
How long will artificial turf last?
Depending on conditions and traffic, artificial turf can last up to 5 – 15 years depending on residential or commercial application, maintenance and foot traffic (imagine all the money you’ll save in maintenance fees and water bills over that kind of time period!). See some of the other benefits.
What is artificial turf actually made of? How about infill?
Artificial turf is made of polyurethane and polyethylene – the same material your plastic milk cartons and many other items are made of. Infill can be made from many different materials such as: rounded washed sand, acrylic coated sand (used for pets and playgrounds), walnut shells (organic option), coconut husks (organic option), natural stone zeolite (used in pet installations) and black granulated rubber/sand mixture (sports fields only).

Is artificial turf safe for my kids and pets?
The artificial grass fiber is 100% polyethylene – the same stuff milk carton plastic is made of.
It contains no lead heavy metals and is toxin-free. The turf is non-abrasive and bacteria-resistant, so it’s gentle on the skin.
We also have a wide range of infill options, including organic options.
What type of maintenance is required for artificial turf?
Unlike regular grass, maintenance of your artificial grass is quick and easy! An occasional brush up and a weekly rinse will keep your lawn fresh and odor free. Read more details on our maintenance page.
How well does artificial turf drain?
Our artificial grass products feature perforations in the back to allow for natural drainage and provides superior drainage to natural grass for all-weather use. Professionally installed by Cal Pro, the artificial turf will allow as much as 60 inches of water per hour to percolate through the system. Playground turf will drain at 400 inches an hour as this product has the max flow backing.
Does artificial turf get dirty?
From time to time and depending on conditions, artificial turf can get dusty. Regular yard debris (tree leaves, etc.) can also accumulate on the turf. It will resist staining and is warrantied against fading for up to 8 years. Maintenance for the turf if it becomes dirty or littered with foreign debris is as follows: wash turf off with garden hose to remove dust as needed. If there are lots of leaves or foreign debris on the turf, simply use a leaf blower to gently remove items until clean. Please note: do not point the air tub directly into grass, as it will disrupt the infill that was applied.
What happens if my dog (or other pet) “does their business” on it?
Much like you would treat these incidents on grass or other services, you can pick up solids to dispose of, and then rinse thoroughly with water and a pet enzyme to kill any germs and bacteria caused by the urine and pet feces. If pets regularly use the turf, this method will need to be repeated once or twice per week.
How will installing artificial turf affect my property value?
We have found that professionally installed artificial turf can add to your property value by providing exceptional curb appeal, a water-conservative landscape, and a low maintenance landscape. Also, low maintenance yards tend to sell faster than homes with dead or poorly maintained grass.
